Lucky In Love : How To DIY Scratch Off Cards

Lucky In Love : How To DIY Scratch Off Cards

Greetings, fellow craft enthusiasts! Today, we're diving into an exciting and interactive project that's perfect for adding a personalized touch to any bridal shower: DIY scratch off cards. Whether you're the bride-to-be looking to add a fun element to your celebration or a crafty friend eager to contribute something special, these homemade scratch off cards are sure to impress.

Materials You'll Need:

  1. White Cardstock
  2. Clear Packing Tape
  3. Acrylic paint (in the color of your choice)
  4. Liquid Dish Soap
  5. Printable Scratch Off Cards
  6. Paintbrushes
  7. Scissors
  8. 2 oz Cups or Mixing bowl
  9. Spoon or stirrer
  10. Writing Marker

     Step 1: Prepare Your Workstation

First things first, let's set up our crafting space. Gather all your materials and lay them out on a clean, flat surface. Protect your workspace with a layer of newspaper or a plastic tablecloth to avoid any unwanted messes.

Step 2: Print & Cut Your Designs

    Step 3: Write Your Messages

Write your messages directly onto the printable. I would suggest using a thicker marker like a sharpie over a pen as the words do not seem to pop as much to me. You'll also want to make sure the ink isn't so wet that your messages smudge on the next step.

    Step 4: Seal Your Messages

     Packaging Tape Scotch Tape

Use packaging tape to seal your messages. You'll want the tape long enough to cover the words without overlapping onto the other cards. I suggest using packaging tape to avoid the paint seeping under it. See picture below to compare the results after scratching each tape type above.

Step 5: Mix Your Scratch Off Paint

Now, let's whip up our own scratch off paint! In a mixing bowl, combine two parts acrylic paint and one part liquid dish soap. Stir the mixture thoroughly until it's well blended and smooth. The dish soap helps to create a scratchable surface, so don't skip this step! I opted to use a 2 oz cup as my mixing bowl and it was MORE than enough!

Step 6: Apply the Scratch Off Paint & Let It Dry

Using the sponge brush, apply a generous layer of your homemade scratch off paint over the taped messages you wish to conceal on your printable design. Be sure to cover the text or images completely with the paint. Set aside for about 15 minutes to let it dry complete. For a quicker drying time, you can use a hairdryer on low setting before applying additional coats of scratch off paint. I was able to completely cover my message with only 2 coats.

    Step 7: Scratch and Reveal!

Now for the moment of truth – invite your guests to scratch off the concealed areas of the cards using a coin or fingernail. Watch as they reveal personalized messages, fun facts, or special prizes hidden beneath the surface. It's sure to be a hit at any bridal shower!

And there you have it – your very own DIY scratch off cards, ready to add a touch of excitement to any celebration. Check out my tutorial video and learn to recreate this project.
